The International Consensus Meeting on Open Injury (ICM–Open Injury) is a global initiative aimed at advancing the evidence-based management of open fractures and complex musculoskeletal injuries. This collaborative effort brings together an international panel of orthopaedic trauma surgeons, plastic surgeons, infectious disease specialists, and researchers from high-volume trauma centres and academic institutions worldwide.
The primary objective of this initiative is to systematically evaluate current evidence and expert opinion to develop consensus recommendations addressing key areas of open injury management, including:
Despite significant progress in trauma care, substantial variation persists in clinical practice due to heterogeneity in injury patterns and limitations in high-quality evidence. This consensus seeks to standardize care pathways and support informed clinical decision-making through a structured and transparent methodology. The final consensus statements, along with supporting evidence summaries, will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publication and made accessible via this platform. We invite clinicians, researchers, and healthcare professionals interested in open injury management to participate in this international collaborative initiative.
